Choosing a Spotlight or Work Light: Beam, Coverage and Hands-Free Use

2000lm Rechargeable 2-in-1 LED Torch & Spotlight

Finding something across the yard and lighting a table for a task are different jobs. A useful light needs the right coverage and a practical way to hold or support it, as well as enough brightness.

Focused light or a wider area?

A focused beam helps illuminate a particular spot. Broader lighting is useful when several people need to see a work area or campsite. What you want lit is a better starting point than lumen numbers alone.

The Rovin SL3742 rechargeable 2-in-1 torch and spotlight combines front lighting with two folding side panels for wider illumination. It also has an extendable neck and fold-out support legs for hands-free positioning.

Its maximum listed output is 2000 lumens. The available brightness and lighting modes let you choose how much light to use. You should never assume the longest quoted runtime applies at maximum output; runtime depends on the selected mode.

Floating spotlights for boating and fishing

The ST3311 floating waterproof spotlight in our Jaycar range is designed for boating and fishing use. It has a swing-out support bracket and comes with mains and vehicle accessory power chargers.

A floating design can be useful around water, but the manual’s handling and charging limits still apply. Waterproof wording should not be treated as permission to leave a light submerged or charge it while wet.

Charging and battery life on a trip

Having the right charger and a working, charged light makes for an easier trip. The highest setting isn’t always needed; a brightness level suited to the job may be more practical.

For general campsite lighting and head torches, our camping lights guide covers those options separately.
