For window/wall air conditioning, Westinghouse is our top recommendation at Delacey’s. If you are replacing an existing unit or planning a suitable window or wall installation, the room and available opening help determine a suitable model.
Why we recommend Westinghouse window/wall air conditioning
Westinghouse is the brand we favour in this category. Its window/wall range includes cooling-only and reverse-cycle options, so you can choose around whether you need cooling alone or heating as well. The room you want to cool and where the unit can be installed determine which models are suitable.
A window/wall unit needs a suitable opening
The Westinghouse WWH22HWA reverse-cycle window/wall air conditioner offers cooling and heating in an all-in-one box design. If you want both functions, you’ll need a reverse-cycle model. You should never assume every window/wall unit provides heating.
If you’re replacing an old unit, it’s easy to assume the new one will slip into the same opening. You’ll want to allow for its support, ventilation and electrical requirements as well as its size.
Capacity needs to suit the room
Floor area is only one part of choosing cooling capacity. Ceiling height, sun exposure, insulation and the way the room connects to other spaces can also affect the requirement. You should never assume the same capacity will suit every room of similar size.
Which climate-zone rating applies in Bowen?
For a home in Bowen, the Hot climate cooling stars and annual cooling kWh on a Zoned Energy Rating Label are the relevant comparison for similar-capacity units. The cooling capacity in kW describes cooling output; it is not the same as electricity consumed. If you also need heating, its separate figures matter too.
The label’s climate zones help avoid comparing figures that suit a different region. Its energy estimate uses standardised conditions; your room, thermostat and hours of use will affect the actual bill. See the government guide to zoned energy labels.
